Freedom Stack
About the project

Civic infrastructure people choose freely.

The Freedom Stack is a long-running project to build the public layer of governance, treasury, identity, and commerce as voluntary, open, forkable software — not as extractive platforms or coercive bureaucracy. Maintained by Blueforge Studio together with a growing collective of contributors.

Origin

Why this exists

When institutions become opaque, captured, or unresponsive, people are left with bad options: comply, exit, or fight from the inside. The Freedom Stack proposes a fourth — build parallel infrastructure that anyone can adopt, fork, or walk away from.

The project began as a working prototype: a charter that codifies rights, a governance annex that resists capture, a treasury annex that enforces solvency, and a public site that recruits contributors instead of selling them anything. Everything else followed from those four documents.

Today the project ships its public foundation — manifesto, constitution, specs, transparency dashboard — and is moving toward the MVP product stack: identity, governance, treasury, marketplace. Each ship date and audit will appear publicly on the transparency page.

What drives us

Three principles, no exceptions

The constitution encodes them as enforceable rules. The site, the specs, and every product surface inherit them.

Voluntary by design

No one is enrolled in the Freedom Stack against their will. Every participant — citizen, node, business, contributor — opts in by ratification, and exit is unconditional.

Transparent by default

Source code, specs, roadmap, audits, and governance decisions are public. The transparency dashboard is part of the product, not a marketing surface bolted on top.

Forkable by right

If the project takes a direction you disagree with, the constitution guarantees the right to fork — code, content, governance — and run a parallel system. No permission needed.

The collective

Who's behind this

A small founding team and a growing collective of contributors. The constitution is the boss, not any individual.

The Freedom Stack is maintained by Blueforge Studio. Studio members serve as initial stewards and ship the first product surfaces. As the governance portal lands, stewardship transitions to elected councils per the governance annex — including delegate recall, sortition, and supermajority rules described in the spec.

See the team page for the founders. Contributing is open: read the worker guild spec for the contribution model and /join to get involved.

The shortest path to understanding the project is the manifesto, then the constitution, then the launch blueprint.
